GLOBAL THRILL THE WORLD HISTORY
Thrill the World is an international dance event created in 2006 by Ines Markeljevic. Every year, friends and families join together attempting to break the World Record for the Largest Simultaneous Dance to Michael Jackson’s Thriller. The final performance is always held the Saturday before Halloween. In the style of Michael Jackson’s famous Thriller video, creating zombie costumes and makeup for the performance is a big part of the fun. This dance is for EVERYBODY – young, old, dance experience or not, and all abilities.
EUGENE THRILL THE WORLD HISTORY
Margo Jennings and Sandy Caughron organized Thrill The World Eugene in 2012. It has evolved to be a popular community event with invitations to perform Thriller in the fall. For our international performance, we have performed at Kesey Square, The Hult-Hilton Plaza, Washington Jefferson Skate Park, and in Amazon Park. We have flash-mobbed on almost every corner downtown and other places throughout the city.
Margo also organizes a summer flashmob group that many Thriller dancers participate in. Thriller dancers have choreographed routines to Happy, Uptown Funk, Better When I’m Dancing, Can’t Stop the Feeling, Feel It Still, and Abu Dhabi.
We fundraise for ShelterCare during our dance season because we are impressed with their dedication to providing emergency services for individuals, families with children, mental health care services, and support skills for brain injured individuals. Both the fall Thriller group and the Summer Flashmob group fundraise for ShelterCare.
We have been blessed with many volunteers who help teach the dance, fundraise, and help our organization run smoothly.
